About the ACAD Award for Excellence in Academic Leadership
From July through August of each year, members of the American Conference of Academic Deans (ACAD) are invited to nominate academic leaders from the associate dean level through the chief academic officer for the ACAD Award for Excellence in Academic Leadership.
Awarded at the ACAD annual meeting in February of each academic year during the award luncheon, the recipient will receive an award recognizing their achievement, a $500 travel stipend to attend the ACAD Annual Meeting conference, and a complimentary conference registration.
Nominations
Nominations for the 2024 year will be accepted beginning August 1 until August 31, 2024. Please use your ACAD member login to access the nomination form.
Note:
- Award nominators must be members of ACAD; however, nominees need not be members.
- Nominees cannot have served on the ACAD Board of Directors for a period of at least one-year prior to nomination.
- Nominators may serve on the ACAD Board of Directors; however, their nominees may not be from their own institution.
2022 Recipient
The ACAD Board of Directors is proud to announce the recipient of the sixth annual Award for Excellence in Academic Leadership: Dr. Jessica Lavariega Monforti, Vice Provost, California State University Channel Islands. The award was established by ACAD to recognize individuals who exemplify excellence in academic leadership through shaping and supporting positive change on their campuses and in their communities. As an academic leader, Dr. Lavariega Monforti has been key in moving institutions to be move inclusive, accessible, and equitable for students, faculty, and staff. 2021 Recipient
The ACAD Board of Directors is proud to announce the recipient of the fifth annual Award for Excellence in Academic Leadership: Dr. Ross Peterson-Veatch, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College, Southwestern College. The award was established by ACAD to recognize individuals who exemplify excellence in academic leadership through shaping and supporting positive change on their campuses and in their communities. As an academic leader, Dr. Peterson-Veatch has facilitated necessary and positive change throughout his career. 2020 Recipient
The ACAD Board of Directors is proud to announce the recipient of the fourth annual Award for Excellence in Academic Leadership: Dr. Carol J. Erting, Provost, Gallaudet University. The award was established by ACAD to recognize individuals who exemplify excellence in academic leadership through shaping and supporting positive change on their campuses and in their communities. Dr. Erting served as Provost from 2014—2020 and continues to be the longest serving faculty member at Gallaudet. Her tenure was a period of great change at the University including the welcoming of a new President, introduction of new programs and development of new initiatives. 2019 Recipient
The ACAD Board of Directors is proud to announce Dr. Sheila Amin Gutiérrez de Piñeres, Dean of the Burnett Honors College (BHC) and Professor of Public Administration at University of Central Florida (UCF) as the third recipient of the ACAD Award for Excellence in Academic Leadership. The award was established by ACAD to recognize individuals who exemplify excellence in academic leadership through shaping and supporting positive change on their campuses and in their communities. Dr. Piñeres was nominated for “her work to diligently create a climate of equal opportunity and inclusiveness” stemming from “her commitment to fostering a climate of diversity and understanding of differences,” according to her nominator. The ACAD Board of Directors is proud to announce Dr. Kristine Bartanen, Provost, University of Puget Sound as the second recipient of the Award for Excellence in Academic Leadership.
