Dr. Melissa R. Michelson (PhD Yale Univ.) is Dean of Arts & Sciences and Professor of Political Sciences at Menlo College. She is also the founding chair of the Student Vote Research Network and a founding Executive Committee member of WomenAlsoKnowStuff, and past president of the American Political Science Association (APSA) Latino Caucus and of the APSA LGBT Caucus. Author of seven books, she is a nationally recognized expert in voter mobilization, Latino politics, LGBTQ politics, and California politics.
Dr. Michelson’s major strands of research include Latino political incorporation, field experiments in voter mobilization of students and ethnic and racial minorities, and field experiments on fostering attitudinal change on LGBTQ issues. Her books include Mobilizing Inclusion: Redefining Citizenship through Get-Out-the-Vote Campaigns (New Haven: Yale University Press, 2012), which won the 2013 American Political Science Association’s Ralph Bunche award for the best book in political science that explores the phenomenon of ethnic and cultural pluralism, as well as the 2013 best book award from the American Political Science Association’s Race, Ethnicity and Politics section. She has published over 60 articles in peer-reviewed academic journals and more than two dozen chapters in edited volumes, including the American Political Science Review and the Journal of Politics.
