Dean, College of Arts and Sciences, Texas Woman’s University
Dr. Abigail Tilton joined Texas Woman’s University in 2003 in the faculty of the Social Work Program. She was appointed Dean in 2016. She served as the Social Work Program Director between 2006 and 2013. In this role, she led the program through two successful reaffirmations from the Council on Social Work Education, significant curriculum revision, and added faculty and staff to the program. She was appointed Associate Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences in 2013. As Associate Dean, she is responsible for supervising the Bachelor of General Studies Program and the College of Arts and Sciences Academic Advisors. She is also responsible for the academic quality for programs and departments and for faculty recruitment and development. She serves on the Strategic Planning Committee for TWU as a representative of the college and serves as the Dean’s Office liaison for all issues related to Title VI, Title VII, and Title IX complaints. Dr. Tilton is currently serving as the Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Prior to joining TWU, Dr. Tilton was the founding Executive Director for AIDS Services of North Texas, a non-profit organization serving people living with HIV/AIDS. Her teaching and research interests include social welfare policy, health care policy, social inequality, and child welfare. She earned a BSW from the University of North Texas, a MSSW from the University of Texas – Arlington, and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of North Texas. Dr. Tilton is married to Kurt Krause and between them they have four wonderful daughters.
