Michael K. Wanous is Vice President for Academic Affairs of Huntington University. Wanous was previously at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, where he served for seventeen years in the roles of professor of biology, chair of the biology department, natural science division chair, and associate academic dean. Mike’s teaching has been in the areas of cell biology, genetics, and molecular biology. His research has focused on plant molecular cytogenetics and gene expression. Mike spent a sabbatical year with his family in Norwich, U.K., where he worked at the John Innes Centre. He has been highly involved in promoting undergraduate research and his students have published in peer-reviewed journals and presented their work in regional and national venues. He has served as the president of the South Dakota Academy of Science. Mike earned his B.S. degree in Agronomy from the University of Minnesota, his M.S. in plant breeding from Texas A&M University, and his Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
